Dispatches from the several States – and what a State we are in

Samuel Adams

By trade I am a maltster, which is to say I make beer, and I will thank the editor to print that before my politics, the beer having never once disappointed me. I do not write the elegant piece. I find the twelve men who will, I get them into the same room, and I see to it that the room has something worth drinking in it. Committees, town meetings, letters between towns: unglamorous work, and the way anything whatever actually gets done. My cousin John supplies the theory. I supply the tavern. History may judge between us at its leisure. I shall have another while it deliberates.
