The Home Front

While my husband requires three columns to establish a single point, I have in the same week run a farm, kept the accounts, taught the children, and buried a quantity of the household silver ahead of the army. I write on the home front: what things cost, what cannot be got at any price, who goes without, and which of the fine new laws happen to stop just short of the people keeping the country fed. I am told my letters are the best unsigned writing this paper prints, and I note that this is a compliment which costs the paper nothing. Remember the ladies. I have now asked twice, in print, and I am fully prepared to make a habit of it.
